Proper care is essential if you want your dentures to last longer and fit correctly. While most people are faithful to their denture care routine, this tends to change when planning a trip. Whether it's a business trip or a vacation, taking a few days away from home can throw off your dental care routine. Unfortunately, as a denture wearer, all it takes is a few days of negligence to end up with loosely fitting or worn restorations. That is why you need to observe these three tips to preserve the integrity and appearance of your dentures when on a trip.

Pack backup dentures

You ever know what might happen while you are on your trip. Your dentures can fall, break or even get lost. This can put you in a bind and ruin your entire trip. To be on the safe side, pack backup dentures as they will come in handy if there is an unforeseen incident.  Talk to your dentist about getting extra dentures so that you can have them before going on the trip. However, note that this option is viable and affordable if you have partial or implant-supported dentures. For full denture wearers, getting an extra set may prove a little expensive.

Carry your denture care package

You need to clean your dentures regularly to get rid of food particles in between the spaces. While on a trip, proper cleaning can be hard if you don't have the right tools. Therefore, as you pack everything else, remember your denture cleaning equipment. These include the cleaning solution, brush, piece of cloth and the storage case. You also need the bonding materials that you use when wearing the restorations. Write a dental care checklist with all these items while preparing for your trip.

Find a local dentist

Dental emergencies can happen at any time. You may break the only functional set of dentures you have, hurt your gum while wearing the restorations, or face another form of dental emergency. That is why you need to find a local dentist in the town or city where you are travelling. Before the trip, look for a good dentist in the area. Ask for recommendations from friends or look them up online. Call the office and inquire about 24-hour services. Having a dentist on call will come in handy if you need immediate dental assistance.

Denture care may be the last thing on your mind when planning for a trip, but it is a critical step in ensuring your peace of mind. Follow these tips to maintain the dental restorations and extend their durability.
