Teeth whitening is a relatively popular procedure for people who want a brighter and whiter smile. But not everyone can afford a teeth whitening procedure at the dental clinic. For those who want to whiten their teeth without the dentist price tag that comes along with it, there are some simple teeth whitening methods that can be conducted in the comfort of their homes. These products can be bought over the counter and are perhaps the cheapest forms of teeth whitening.

Specialised Teeth Whitening Toothpastes

Teeth whitening toothpaste will strictly whiten your teeth and will not bleach them. They contain mild amounts of hydrogen peroxide and carbamide peroxide to lighten the colour of teeth more easily. Specialised teeth whitening toothpastes are different from regular toothpastes. They have a somewhat abrasive effect and can lighten your teeth up to a single shade. They also contain some polishing or chemical agents for added stain removal.

Teeth Whitening Gel

Teeth whitening peroxide-based gels offer good results for lightening the appearance of teeth. The specific regimen will depend on the strength of the peroxide in the teeth whitening gel. You may notice teeth lightening in as little as a few days.

Teeth Whitening Mouthwash

Like regular mouthwash, specialised teeth whitening mouthwashes reduce plaque, gum diseases and freshen breath. But they also contain peroxide in small amounts to whiten teeth more effectively. You must use these mouthwash rinses in the same manner as you would use traditional mouthwash. This method may not be effective as a standalone teeth whitening solution, since the peroxide doesn't stay in contact with the teeth for too long. This could be used to supplement another teeth whitening method for the best result.

Readymade Teeth Whitening Trays

Store-purchased teeth whitening trays are another solution for DIY teeth whitening. Keep in mind that they may not be as comfortable as customised trays fitted by the dentist, since they are made to generally fit all types of mouth structures. Sometimes the gel may ooze out of the tray and irritate your gums, but they certainly are a far more budget-friendly choice than custom-fit dental trays.

Teeth Whitening Strips

Teeth whitening strips are thin plastic pieces that are coated with peroxide. You'll need to fix the strips to the front of your teeth everyday for a pre-determined time for a few weeks. Typically, the teeth whitening results should last you for a few months, making this the most effective DIY teeth whitening method.

Follow these home-based teeth whitening treatments if you're on a budget. Keep in mind that visiting a dentist to determine your teeth whitening options is always advised for the best results.
